Health classes explained
What Preferred Plus, Preferred, Standard Plus, and Standard mean and what triggers movement between them.
Insurance carriers organize term pricing into rate classes. The titles shift between companies, but the hierarchy stays the same: Preferred Plus (Super Preferred, Preferred Best), Preferred, Standard Plus, Standard, then table ratings for bigger risk. Tobacco users get their own parallel set with higher premiums.
What underwriters look at
Height, weight, blood pressure, cholesterol, any cancer or heart disease in the family before 60, driving history, what you take for medicine, what you do for work and play, and any nicotine use. Preferred Plus needs clean findings across the board. Preferred allows some give. Standard Plus and Standard cover controlled situations—like high blood pressure that's being treated.
How to use the quote tool
Tell us your health truthfully: Excellent slots to Preferred Plus, Very good to Preferred, Good to Standard Plus, Average to Standard. Your quote uses that class; the carrier sets the actual class after underwriting. Unsure? Quote at two classes to compare, then let the application settle it. Overstating your health won't cut your premium; it just makes the quote less accurate.
Susman Insurance Agency knows which carriers view certain conditions more favorably. That often matters more than the base rate.
